The scale

  • 0–20Neutral
  • 21–40Reasonable
  • 41–60Fan
  • 61–80Biased
  • 81–100Deluded

And the other way

  • Turncoatharder on your club by more than 0.75 stars
  • Cynicharder on your club by 0.25 to 0.75

These two have no number because they are not a low score. They mean you mark your own club down relative to everyone else, which the 0–100 scale cannot express.

Who you support

Changing this re-reads every rating you’ve given — your bias score and your rivals both move.

How the score works

Every match gets a mark out of five for how good it was, worked out from what actually happened in it — goals, when they went in, comebacks, late drama, shots. No opinions involved.

You give it your own mark. The difference is your gap for that match.

Without a club there is nothing to subtract, so there is no bias score — just how far you sit from the model across everything you rate. Pick a club on this page and the score starts working.

Three things worth knowing

  • The number never stops moving. It is an average across everything you have rated, so every match you add nudges it. Early on it lurches — at three of your club’s matches, one more shifts that average by a third. By twenty it barely twitches. That is why a young score is marked early rather than wrong.
  • It waits until it has enough. Once you pick a club: three of their matches and six without them for a first number, five and ten before it stops being called early. At the lower bar an honest person comes out looking biased about one time in twenty-five.
  • * Rivals are counted separately, as Spite. A City match isn’t neutral if you support United. Spite is how you rate your rivals’ matches depending on whether they lost: if a rival getting beaten makes you mark the game higher than it deserved, that shows up there. Keeping it out of the main number matters, because otherwise enjoying a rival’s bad day would look like being fair to everyone else.
  • Five stars is a ceiling. If a match deserved four and you’d have given it six, you still only get to give it five. That hides bias most for fans of entertaining clubs, so the score is worked out allowing for the cut-off.
